Mobile Subaru key replacement near you
Subaru owners tend to use their cars hard: trailheads, ski trips, lake weekends up north. That's often where keys go missing. Back home in Oakland or Macomb County, we come to your Outback, Forester or Crosstrek, cut and program a replacement on site, and get you moving again without a trip to the dealer.
Depending on the year and trim, your Subaru may use a chipped key with a separate remote, a remote-head key, or Subaru's Keyless Access fob with push-button start. Many newer Subarus use a high-security blade for the emergency key. We carry the equipment to handle each type and test every function before we leave.
Popular Subaru models we make keys for
- Subaru Outback
- Subaru Forester
- Subaru Crosstrek
- Subaru Ascent
- Subaru Impreza
- Subaru Legacy
- Subaru WRX
- Subaru BRZ

Subaru keys and fobs we replace
Keyless Access smart keys
Subaru's proximity fob for push-button start, common on newer Outbacks, Foresters, Crosstreks and Ascents. We program new fobs on site for most models.
Remote-head keys
Many turn-key Subarus combine the key, chip and lock buttons in one head. We cut the blade and program both the chip and the remote.
Transponder keys with separate remote
Older Subarus often use a chipped key plus a separate fob. We can replace either piece or both.
Emergency key blade
Keyless Access fobs hold a metal key for the driver's door. We cut a replacement to your locks if it is missing.
Leaving the fob in the car on purpose
Some newer Subarus with Keyless Access have a PIN code feature that lets you lock and unlock the car without carrying the fob. That's handy for hiking or swimming, where a fob can get wet or lost. Look for "PIN code access" in your owner's manual to see if your model has it.
Common Subaru key jobs we handle
- Lost Subaru Keyless Access fob
- Spare key for an Outback or Forester
- Water-damaged fob
- Remote-head key for an older Impreza or Legacy

Subaru key replacement FAQs
Can you program a Subaru Keyless Access fob?
Yes, for most models. We program new Keyless Access fobs on site, including when all keys are lost. If your model year still requires the dealer, we'll tell you when you call.
What do I do if my Subaru key fob dies?
Use the hidden metal key to open the driver's door. On most push-button Subarus you can then hold the fob against the start button to start the car. If a new battery doesn't bring the fob back, it may need replacing.
Can you make a key for an older Subaru without the original?
Yes. We can cut a new key from your VIN or by decoding a lock, then program the chip so the car starts. Older remote-head and chipped Subaru keys are routine for us.
How much does Subaru key replacement cost?
It depends on the model, year and key type. A basic Subaru transponder key costs less than a push-to-start smart key, and making a spare costs less than replacing every lost key. Call (586) 623-2403 with your year, model and VIN for a firm quote before any work starts.
Do you come to me for Subaru key replacement?
